You can save a step and de-interlace when you capture, ONLY if you shoot using the 24pA mode on the HVR-V1U. The Sequence preset you want to use is Apple ProRess 422 (HQ) 1440 X 1080 24p 48 kHz. Set the Capture preset at HDV-Apple ProRess 422 (HQ). Set the device control preset to Sony HDV FireWire. The only drawbacks to capturing this way are that you cannot control the camera through the computer and you lose your time code.

If its too late and you shot your footage in the 24p mode instead. An easy way to remove the pulldown is to open the clip in Cinema Tools and conform it to the correct 23.98 fps, conform it back to the 29.97 fps, and then move the playhead to the second frame that is not interlaced. This will correctly remove the pulldown.
