Light Brite

A couple people have been asking me about Lighting an indoor set. When you are shooting inside a couple things that you want to remember are; to make sure that you set your GAIN to Zero. The more Gain you have in a shot, the more noise is going to be in the picture, this will make your images dark so you must increase light to compensate for ZERO GAIN. Now, to get more light into the camera, open your IRIS up as much as possible, your IRIS is what controls the amount of light that enters the camera. Also, decreasing the Shutter Speed will give you more light but you will run the risk of blurry images, so make sure you run some tests before shooting.

With that being said, make sure to have a lot of studio lights on your set. You can never have too much light. The Sony HVR-V1U has a setting that will make stripes over your over exposed area. The ZEBRA setting is a good way to check for these areas. If your images are over exposed you lose information and there is no way to get that back.
