Scott Mactavish & “God and Country”

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of grabbing another beer with Scott Mactavish. He is a best selling author and filmmaker here in Charlottesville. His latest film “God and Country” is a pro-troops film that celebrates America. In 2006, he wrote/produced a documentary featuring Sissy Spacek entitled, “Summer Running – The Race to Cure Breast Cancer” and donated over $17,000 to breast cancer research in the process.
He has wrote/produced commercials for NABISCO, PEPSI, and the GAP. He has worked on the set on numerous Hollywood productions notably, “Evan Almighty,” and “The Crow.” Interestingly enough, he was Goomba in the 1993 movie, “Super Mario Bros.” Scott Mactavish has a great insight of the independent film industry and the business behind it. Some great advice I received from Scott Mactavish I’d like to pass along:
(1) produce a film for a specific audience that is passionate about your product
(2) find the truth behind the story to deliver a product people can relate with
(3) surround yourself with people who support and believe in you
